Ecommerce and CMS consulting

I help mid-size and large businesses with the platforms they sell and publish on, such as Shopify, Optimizely and Dynamicweb, and with the backend integrations and .NET development around them.

What I help with

Five areas, one thread: ecommerce and CMS platforms that have to work with the rest of the business.

I also work with Umbraco and WooCommerce, and with other platforms when the problem is the same.

How it starts

  1. 1

    A free 30-minute call

You describe one system and share a diagram if you have one. I tell you the three things I would look at first. No pitch; if I am not the right person, I will say so.

  2. 2

    A written scope

If a deeper look makes sense, I send a short proposal: what I will do, what I need from you, the timeline and the price. You decide; there is no obligation.

  3. 3

    The work

I do the review, the advisory work or the development as agreed, and report in writing.

Ways to work together

Architecture review

A fixed-scope review of one ecosystem

A focused review over 1–2 weeks of your platform, integrations or order flow, with a written result you can hand to your team and your leadership.

  • Your ecosystem mapped as I understand it, checked back with your team
  • Ranked risks, each with the evidence behind it
  • A recommended order of work, including what not to touch yet
  • A 60-minute walkthrough of the findings

Fixed price, agreed in writing before work starts.

I take 1 paid review a month so it gets proper attention.

Advisory retainer

A senior second opinion, on call

Roughly 10–20 hours a month for a team that wants an experienced architect to think alongside them.

  • Design and decision reviews before you commit to them
  • Platform and vendor choices, and what a migration would really involve
  • Reviewing integration designs between commerce, CMS, CRM and order systems
  • Pairing with your senior engineers and agency partners on the hard parts

Agreed monthly, with a short notice period.

Scoped development

A defined piece of work, built and handed over

An integration, a service or a platform extension in .NET and C#, scoped and priced up front.

  • A written scope with deliverables and a timeline
  • Code in your repository, with tests and a pipeline
  • Documentation and a handover session
  • Your team reviews the work as it goes

Priced per piece of work, agreed in writing before work starts.

Who it suits

A good fit

  • Mid-size and large businesses running ecommerce or a CMS on Shopify, Optimizely, Dynamicweb or a similar platform
  • A system that works but is getting harder to change, trace or integrate with
  • A replatforming, upgrade or integration decision that is expensive to reverse

Not a fit

  • Full-time staffing or a long-term embedded role
  • Day-to-day running of your shop, or design and theme work. I work alongside the people who do that.
  • Line-by-line code review or a security audit
  • Work on my employer’s systems or with its information. My independent work is kept entirely separate.

Terms

Scope, price, confidentiality and invoicing are agreed in writing before any work starts. I am happy to sign your NDA. I keep what you share confidential and use it only for the engagement. I consult alongside a full-time role, so I take on a small number of defined engagements at a time.

Start with a free 30-minute call

Describe one system or decision. It takes a minute, and it tells us both whether a deeper look is worth it.
